It's hard these days to realize that not every bit of information is on the web. You see, I am looking for some sheet music from the 1940s, sounds easy enough, right? Not so much. Most of the music then was actually sheet music and was well-used.
And amazingly enough, the internet is lacking an archive of these pieces (it wouldn't even be illegal to put them online, most of them are copyright-free).
HOWEVER, I did find the Duke library's site that is starting to archive this music and scan it for the masses: http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu/sheetmusic/.
Mississippi state doesn't have too bad a collection either: http://library.msstate.edu/content/templates/?a=1496&z=392
Hopkins has some too: http://levy-test.dkc.jhu.edu/index.html
